The State 911 Department is charged with the coordination, administration, and implementation of Enhanced 911 services throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 

The State 911 Department provides E911 equipment, database, network and technical support services to all primary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP). The agency also sponsors and conducts numerous training programs and professional development courses for state and municipal 911 telecommunicators.

 

The State 911 Department publishes a variety of educational materials designed to promote the appropriate use of our E911 network. In addition the State 911 Department is the administrator of the Massachusetts Equipment Distribution Program (MassEDP) and the Massachusetts Telecommunication Relay Service (MassRelay)

When should I call 911?

You should call 911 whenever you need immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance.

 

Can I make a 911 call through the MassRelay service?

In case of an emergency, Relay users should call 911 directly either using their TTY or any regular landline phone. By calling 911 directly the dispatcher will automatically receive your name, telephone number and address. This will save valuable time in urgent situation.

 

Do I need special equipment to call 911?

Emergency services can be reached by calling 911 from your TTY or by calling from any landline or wireless telephone.
